Who can get Botox? Botox is virtually for everyone who may show signs of aging (i.e. fine lines, wrinkles). We use two different types of treatment with wrinkle relaxers depending on the needs of the patient.
First, we treat patients that seek out preventative measures, normally your early 20-30-year-old patients that start to show some signs of early aging. A major contributor to the development of these early age concerns is common facial expressions, such as smiling and squinting which happens when the muscles contract creating fine lines and wrinkles.
Secondly, corrective Botox is a treatment most appropriate for those 30yrs of age and up. The value and condition of our skin continues to deplete over time. The inevitable aging process and sun exposure can add to an increased volume of wrinkles and fine lines. Over time, the contribution of deeper seated wrinkles begin to make an appearance. This is when the need for a corrective treatment of Botox is performed rather than just preventative.
What is Botox exactly? Botox, an FDA approved treatment, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed. It is composed of a unique solution called Botulinumtoxin, which is effective at treating most aging concerns. Botox is approved treatment to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet & forehead lines look softer and more relaxed in adults.
Glabellar- Frown Lines: Relaxing the muscles that can create that “1” or “11” effect between your eyebrows.
“Jelly Roll”: Treating the under-eye roll that occurs from smiling/squinting.
“Crow’s Feet”: Treatment of the fine lines that occur on the outside of the eyes from smiling/squinting.
Forehead Lines: Treating the wrinkles that develop on the forehead from facial expressions like raising your eyebrows.
Platysmal Bands: Injecting Botox into the two strips of muscles that start at the base of your neck and run up the front left and right sides of your neck, all the way up to the jaw, creating a smoother, softer appearance of the neck.
Nasalis, “Bunny lines”: Treatment of the vertical/diagonal lines on the nose from “scrunching” your nose.
“Lip Flip”: Treating the muscles above the top lip with Botox to relax them creating a temporary “plumped” effect.
Massesters: Relaxing the lower jaw muscles that contributes to TMJ, tension in the jaw, grinding teeth, and slimming the jawline.
Mentalis, Chin: Treating this area with Botox can diminish the “dimples” or “orange peel” look that can occur when contracting the muscles.
DAO, Corners of the mouth: Botox is injected into the DAO muscle of the lower face which turns the corners of the mouth up.
Botox is a quick 15minute “lunchtime” procedure that is virtually pain-free. Our providers will make an assessment of all the areas that need to be treated based off the patient’s goal. Botox is strategically injected into the muscles using a fine insulin needle. Most people describe the treatment as 'a slight prick' but it’s over in no time! In addition, we have resources and tools such as topical lidocaine and a nerve distracting device called Nu-Vibe, to ensure each patient is most comfortable with the injection process. After the treatment, you may have a small amount of redness and swelling---this will usually resolve within ten minutes. Some bruising is possible, but not typical. The patients may bring cover-up or makeup to use shortly after treatment.
Botox takes anywhere from 10-14 days to take full effect with results that last 3-4 months. Botox delivers predictable, subtle results so you look just like yourself only with less noticeable facial lines. With consistent treatments over time, Botox can help prevent further fine lines and wrinkles.
