Mindful Beauty: Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers

What are injectable dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers or facial fillers are products such as collagen and hyaluronic acid that help to rejuvenate facial skin by reducing or eliminating wrinkles, enhancing lips and replacing soft-tissue volume loss through facial injections. With age, our skin becomes more susceptible to wrinkles and sagging. Exposure to sun and years of muscle movement ( squinting, chewing, smiling ) contribute to tissue breakdown of the skin requiring intervention. Facial fillers are a great way to combat the aging process in a natural way.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps keep skin plump and hydrated. HA fillers are typically soft and gel-like. The results are temporary, lasting 6 to 12 months or longer before the body gradually and naturally absorbs the particles.

Which dermal fillers do you offer?
We offer several different types of facial fillers at Ashley McFarland Aesthetics. Depending on what area you are concerned with or your desired look may be, we are able to determine which filler would be best suited for you. Currently we offer these fillers:
Juvederm® Facial Fillers: Made of a hyaluronic acid gel, Juvederm® is a naturally-occurring substance in the skin that contributes to volume and hydration. Juvederm® is designed to temporarily correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm® is made by Allergan, the same makers of Botox®. Juvederm offers a wider branch of fillers under their name such as Juvéderm Ultra Plus, VOLUMA, VOLBELLA, and VOLLURE
Restylane Facial Fillers:
A biodegradable gel composed of hyaluronic acid, Restylane is a soft tissue dermal filler that adds volume to the skin through tiny injections; smoothing facial folds and wrinkles in areas around the mouth and eyes. Under the Retylane family there are Restylane, Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Refyne, and Restylane Defyne.
Sculptra Aesthetic: an FDA-approved injectable that helps gradually replace lost collagen—the most common protein in the body that is used to form a framework to support cell and tissue.

How can facial fillers help rejuvenate the face?
*By smoothing out lines around nose and mouth (marionette lines, smile lines, and parentheses)
*By enhancing & restoring volume to sunken cheeks or temples
* By diminishing vertical lip lines
*By plumping & enhancing the lips
*By smoothing out chin creases
*By improving symmetry among facial features

How long do most fillers last?
You can expect on average for most dermal fillers to last 6 months-18 months depending on the area treated and which filler was injected.

Are different fillers designated for specific areas?

Would I be a good candidate for facial fillers?
The best way to determine if you could benefit from facial fillers would be with a consultation. From there, we are able to create an exact plan based around you and pinpoint which filler would be ideal for your aesthetic desires.

What is the cost associated with dermal fillers?
At Ashley McFarland Aesthetics, we charge by area rather than by filler type or by syringe. We encourage you to call the office or make a consultation to get an exact quote.

Is the treatment painful?
We try to make your time in our treatment chair as comfortable as possible. Not only do we topically numb the area you are treating, but we also utilize a vibration device that eases discomfort during the process.

What can I expect after receiving facial injections?
Recovery time varies for each patient and for each type of filler injected. You can resume most activities right away, but we generally recommend that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising.Your initial appearance after treatment with any dermal filler may include:
*An “overfilled” appearance to treated areas
*Swelling or bruising
*Temporary numbness or redness
*Palpable lumps or hard areas at the injection sites
*Hypersensitivity Most conditions can be alleviated with topical icing and massage and will improve within a matter of hours or just a few days.
