What is Vivace?

Vivace is a powerful microneedling system that uses radiofrequency. Vivace has 36 gold-tipped needles and provides a powerful boost to your natural skin.

Microneedling works by using extremely small needles to pierce the very top layers of the skin, which promotes skin growth and collagen production. As your skin heals from microscopic injury of the microneedles, the appearance of unwanted skin issues are reduced. Vivace microneedling can be used to treat wrinkles, discoloration, acne scarring, and skin laxity. Simply by using the skin’s natural healing process, Vivace can allow you to get the skin that you have always wanted without a surgical procedure.

What is the Vivace treatment like?

A Vivace treatment is minimally invasive and designed to provide effective skin treatment while minimizing discomfort. The process begins with a specialized numbing cream which is applied for 30 minutes to ensure that the top layer of skin is completely numb before the procedure begins. If the patient would like additional analgesics, we also offer ProNox gas to aid in the numbing process.  ProNox is a self-administered nitrous oxide (laughing gas) system that you can request to help prevent or lessen discomfort and/or anxiety during minimally invasive treatments. The ProNox mouthpiece is there for you to use to help you relax or reduce the intensity of your treatment—and you are in complete control.

Once Vivace microneedling begins, you may feel a bit of pressure when the device moves over bonier areas, such as the cheekbones, forehead, and hairline but overall, the discomfort is minimal. We can treat your face/neck/chest with the device as the microneedles penetrate your skin with radiofrequency which reach a deeper level than traditional microneedling. We then add PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) to every Vivace treatment. PRP is collected when a small sample of a patient’s blood is spun in a centrifuge, separating out the PRP from the red blood cells. 

After the Vivace treatment, you will be given a soothing serum to ensure that your skin is moisturized, hydrated, and ready to heal.

Typically, there are no downtime after the procedure. However, you may notice a slight redness in the face for a few days, and itchiness and peeling can occur in some patients. Neither of these symptoms is a cause for concern and are typical side effects.

Vivace FAQ’s

1. How long does Vivace take?

The actual treatment takes about 20-45 minutes depending on the area, with an additional 30-45 minutes needed for numbing.

2. What is radiofrequency?

Radiofrequency provides heat that stimulates collagen production which has been found to lead to tighter, younger-looking skin.  Combined with state-of-the-art microneedling, patients experience optimal results.

3. How many Vivace treatments do I need?

Most providers find that 3 to 4 treatments, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, provides the optimal experience for patients. While the results re often immediate for skin tone and texture, there is also improvement over a three-month period as the process of collagen regeneration increases over time. 

4. When can I wear makeup after my treatment?

Most patients go out without hours after the treatment with no makeup at all. To maximize the combination of open channels, use our Soothe Mask and Boost Serum. We recommend at least six hours before you apply makeup. 

5. How long do the results last?

Everyone is different, but the collagen you make is your own and continues accelerated production over three months. Results improve over time.

How does it work?

– Fraxel was created purely for medical aesthetics. Over time, however, it is now used to slow down sunspots and attack early skin cancer by wiping it off and giving you a nice blank canvas to start again with.

– This laser hits deeper into the skin and will do a lot more in terms of remodeling. Because of the depth, you will get more collagen remodeling which is great for fine lines and wrinkles and improvement of the texture of the skin.

This laser can work great for younger and older people as well. The level of Fraxel treatment can vary, and you can use it as a preventative measure or to treat your skin development over the years.

Kristi Hutsell, Medical Aesthetician

Kristi has called Murfreesboro her home for 30 years! She graduated from MTSU and began a teaching career in the Rutherford County School District. She developed a strong passion for skincare and decided to make a career change and attended the Aveda Institute of Nashville to pursue a brand new chapter. She went to CoolSculpting University has been working with this machine for 6 years.

Kristi joined the AMA team in 2020 to continue to spread the word on how this incredible procedure can transform your body in ways you never thought could be corrected. Not only is Kristi the CoolSculpting Queen, she is the life of the party in the office. Come visit if you want a good laugh! 

Ashley McFarland, WHNP-BC, MSN, RN:

Ashley is a Murfreesboro native with over 20 years of experience in nursing. She graduated from the University of Vanderbilt as a Nurse Practitioner in 2001 and has 12 years experience in the aesthetics industry. She and her husband, Shane, have 3 boys.  Their family can be found on the baseball field, basketball courts or soccer fields most weekends with their boys.  

Ashley strives to makes sure that every client feels seen and heard. She finds it incredibly important to focus on continuing education and staying up to date with the current research that happens within the world of aesthetics. Ashley always has a million things going on, but when you’re with her – she is laser focused on serving you and your needs. 

Blair Akers, RN, BSN:

Blair moved to Murfreesboro in 1997 and graduated at MTSU School of Nursing in 2006. After 10 years at Middle Tennessee’s Medical Center as a NICU Nurse, she joined the AMA family in 2017 after her love for aesthetic medicine became her passion. Her aesthetic and medical knowledge runs deep and she is always learning and educating others, which is what people love about being in her care.

Blair is known for making clients feel incredibly comfortable with her deep knowledge of all things aesthetics. “Botox with Blair” is a client favorite!

Tricia King, Medical Aesthetician:

Tricia was born and raised in Shelbyville and has resided in Murfreesboro for the last 11 years. She graduated from MTSU with a BS in Business Administration. Once she started going to an esthetician, she was shocked at how much taking care of your skin professionally could help. She quickly turned that into her passion and joined the AMA family in April of 2021 after working in aesthetics already for years.

What are Growth Factors?

Have you ever wondered why your skin just doesn’t have the “umph” it did in your younger days?  Have you lost that glow and plumpness you had in your glory days?  Unfortunately, this is a natural part of the aging process, and it happens to all of us.  It is in large part due to the loss of our skin’s communicators called GROWTH FACTORS (GF). GF’s are proteins that are manufactured by cells.  They are responsible for sending signals to other cells, commanding them to reproduce and repair.  

In our younger years, our bodies produce large quantities of growth factors, keeping the skin thick and healthy.  Production of elastin fibers are also at their best.  This is the reason our skin can maintain a healthy elasticity and glow when we are in our 20’s. By our late 20’s/early 30’s, the growth factor process greatly slows down.  The skin starts producing smaller amounts of these growth factors, resulting in slower cell growth and skin becomes thinner and less supple.  This breakdown in cell function along with environmental factors such as sun exposure and pollution can really wreak havoc on the integrity of our skin health, causing wrinkles and sagging.  Helping our cells out by adding a growth factor to our skin care regimen can a lot of times be the game changer our skin has been searching for.

Growth Factor Types

There are many types of growth factors that can be derived from many sources.  Typically, they are divided into two groups…human derived and plant derived.  Human derived GF’s can have many sources, such as your own blood (also known as platelet rich plasma or PRP), and other human tissues such as skin cells.  Skincare companies have really risen to the challenge in creating the fountain of youth by developing some amazing products containing GF’s.  These companies tend to have different sources and methods to creating their own growth factors products.

PRP

PRP (platelet rich plasma) is one of the most effective ways to utilize your own growth factors.  The plasma containing platelets is separated from the red blood cells by a simple blood draw in office.  The blood is spun in a centrifuge to make this separation process happen.  This is easy and only takes a few minutes!  The plasma containing your PRP is utilized in different ways to stimulate collagen and promote cell growth.  It can be injected underneath the skin to help improve elasticity and thickness, making the cells healthier in general.  It is also used as the glide component in microneedling.  

With this method, the PRP is driven into the skin through the channels created by the needles.  PRP is known to speed the healing process when used in post care for just about any skin treatment such as laser skin resurfacing or RF microneedling just to name a couple.  An awesome benefit to using PRP is that it comes from your own body, so there is zero chance of having an adverse reaction to it, making it a WIN WIN!

Plant derived Growth Factors vs Human derived

Plant derived GF are engineered in a lab to mimic human derived GF’s.  Sources for these include barley and corn.  

Both types have been shown in research to be effective for reducing wrinkles, improving firmness and elasticity, and boosting cell turnover.

Skin Medica is renowned for their golden child, TNS (which stands for Tissue Nutrient Solution). They incorporate a high concentration of patented growth factors, over 380 to be more specific.  It is a great human-based growth factor solution and is found in several of their products such as TNS Advanced Serum, TNS Recovery Complex and TNS Eye Repair.  

Another favorite growth factor product line here is the ZO skincare line created by Dr. Zein Obagi.  This is a great example of a plant-based growth factor!  ZO has a GF serum and a GF eye serum.  Both are big hits with AMA clients!  Feel free to talk to your aesthetician about which one is best for you and your skin!
